Still Feels Like Home

Conceived originally as a combined remodel and addition, this Cat Mountain Residence design and style from Cornerstone Group Architects in Austin, Texas, presented some thing of a dilemma. Structurally, it would have been much more workable to do in depth tear-downs, but the client basically wanted to recreate the current property, just “refreshed” and refurbished with contemporary touches. Getting a specialist in residential interiors, this certain client also had a vision of a “transitional” style in the remodel, which this layout accomplishes with deceptively smooth élan. The atmosphere of the residence is fresh, airy, and bright — witness the all-natural light flowing by means of 2-story windows around a “floating” staircase — along with a mix of rustic and contemporary that has its playful side (note the “animal” rug beneath the extended book-covered table).

Now, the owners can appreciate a beautiful view — extensive floor-to-ceiling windows and French doors support in that endeavor — and a seamless merge of indoor and outdoor living. Mere methods separate the open-strategy principal living and dining places from an outside relaxation and entertaining space with plunge pool, fire pit, and roomy patio — itself delineated by shallow stone measures to the lawn and water feature. And, given that that outside living space is also tucked in an interior courtyard, it’s surrounded by wings of the residence for cozy privacy, whilst nevertheless conveying a sense of spacious ambience. Integrating energy-effective features, reclaimed architectural wood detail, and sustainable design, the architect and owner worked with each other to bring about this modern day, clean-lined space that, when all the dust settled, “felt like home”…improved.

the Green Bowman Home by Cornerstone Architects House Recycled:

You say you’d love to tear down the residence you have and update it — without wasting all the old material? That is what this Tarrytown owner accomplished, with a little help from Cornerstone Architects. With an aim in thoughts of LEED-centered principles in the design, and a fervent want to put together a sustainable house, the client and designers worked with each other to deconstruct the complete residence piece by piece, then reuse or reclaim 95 percent of the material. The resulting structure is airy, spacious, and bright its multi-leveled roof façade presents a curb-friendly appearance with a minimal footprint, for a house that is as straightforward on the eye as it is on the atmosphere. Not that this finish came with no some challenges: the house was designed around existing trees, but the owner wanted to expand the views while nonetheless preserving a private interior.

The resolution entails a central “open” living space that segues into the south corner of the lot even though there’s lots of glass about one particular bath’s soaking tub, for instance, it looks out on a private courtyard region with both fencing and higher trees as screening. “Floating” stairs preserve a rustic appearance with modern day lines, and such touches as vibrant modern art and unique “chandeliers” over the dining table clearly indicate an updated strategy. But this home also achieves its efforts toward “green”: its use of rainwater collection systems, skilled shading, energy-effective appliances, spray-foam insulation, and repurposed components gained it a 5-star rating from the Austin Power Green Developing Plan. An ideal compromise of updates and earth-conscious responsibility: that’s this Bowman residence from Austin’s own Cornerstone Architects.

An exterior courtyard is bounded by a retaining wall of rustic stone and attributes concrete paver “walks” an upper-level terrace runs the length of the property and complements 2 stories’ worth of windows. But it is what’s inside this house that will make your book-loving close friends salivate: bookshelves literally kind the walls for a lot of this space. But make no error: the books aren’t the only glamorous touch here. A pool shimmers at one particular end of the home’s terrace, with an outdoor “living room” adjoining it — full with shrubbery accents and a rug. Wide-plank wood flooring is a unifying element, complementing the contemporary art and contemporary furnishings that accent this open-strategy space. (Note the “zebra” rug on the floor of one nook!) And, even though the bathrom does not function a wall of bookshelves, it does have a soaking tub tucked into a glass-walled corner of the white-and-marble space with shades rolled up, the view becomes an eye-catcher. But when all is said and carried out, the books are the stars here you will in no way lack for some thing very good to study in this casually sophisticated Bookhouse by Cornerstone.
