This unconventional kindergarten in the form of a cat is located near Karlsruhe and more specifically in Wolfartsweier. The cat is more like a sphinx on the floor, was designed by the French artist Tomi Ungerer and the architect d’;Ayla Suzan Yöndel and opened in 2002.
Every morning the children go through the open “cat’;s mouth” and during the day have a lot of fun either outside in the courtyard or in the nursery itself, since there is a spacious room with a climbing wall and large, colorful modules is to build and gymnastics. On the back of the building you can find the cat’;s tail, which actually works as a chute. This to go home in the afternoon is an amusing and playful way to leave the nursery again. The 2 large windows at the front of the façade serve as a visual cat’;s eye while ensuring sufficient daylight for the interior residents. This exceptional kindergarten is one of the most original in Europe. Hard to believe that the building is not located in Japan, right?
